Progress Report on Public Banking: With DAVID BUCHHOLTZ, Chair of SF Public Banking TF, and RENEE VILLARREAL, City Councilor for District 1
Journey Hosts: Alan Webber & Bill Dupuy
David Buchholtz, well known New Mexico bond counsel and chair of the Santa Fe Public Banking Task Force, will talk about the work of the task force and the upcoming public forum. The Task Force, established by the Mayor and City Council of Santa Fe, has been meeting regularly since August and is scheduled to make a progress report to the City Council Finance Committee on November 13th.
The Task Force has been charged with providing the City Council with the information needed to make an informed decision about the pros and cons of submitting an application for a New Mexico Bank Charter for a public bank for Santa Fe.
Though committees, the Task Force has been focusing on the feasibility of establishing a government owned public bank by concentrating on legal, regulatory, governance and capitalization issues.
The Task Force has also been studying the possible activities that could be taken by a public bank. Mr. Buchholtz will preview the report to be made to the Finance Committee.
Renee Villarreal is a City Councilor for District 1 and was the principal councilor sponsor of the public banking task force resolution.
